Texas Top Legal Officer Takes Legal Action Against Tylenol Manufacturers Regarding Autism Spectrum Assertions

Judicial Proceedings
The Texas Attorney General, who supports former President Trump seeking election to US Senate, claimed pharmaceutical manufacturers of hiding the risks of acetaminophen

Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the manufacturers of Tylenol, claiming the firms concealed potential risks that the medication presented to children's neurological development.

The court filing follows four weeks after Former President Trump advocated an unproven link between consuming acetaminophen - referred to as acetaminophen - during pregnancy and autism in children.

The attorney general is filing suit against J&J, which once produced the medication, the only pain reliever approved for expectant mothers, and Kenvue, which now manufacturers it.

In a declaration, he stated they "betrayed America by profiting off of pain and marketing drugs ignoring the risks."

The manufacturer states there is lacking scientific proof connecting Tylenol to autism.

"These manufacturers misled for generations, deliberately risking countless individuals to boost earnings," the attorney general, from the Republican party, stated.

The company said in a statement that it was "very worried by the dissemination of inaccurate information on the safety of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of US mothers and children."

On its website, Kenvue also stated it had "regularly reviewed the pertinent research and there is no credible data that demonstrates a established connection between taking acetaminophen and autism spectrum disorder."

Associations speaking for doctors and health professionals concur.

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has stated paracetamol - the key substance in acetaminophen - is among limited choices for pregnant women to manage pain and elevated temperature, which can present serious health risks if ignored.

"In more than two decades of research on the utilization of acetaminophen in pregnancy, zero credible investigations has conclusively proven that the usage of acetaminophen in any period of gestation results in neurological conditions in children," the organization stated.

This legal action references recent announcements from the previous government in claiming the medication is potentially dangerous.

In recent weeks, the former president raised alarms from medical authorities when he advised pregnant women to "resist strongly" not to take Tylenol when ill.

Federal regulators then published an announcement that medical professionals should think about restricting the usage of acetaminophen, while also stating that "a direct connection" between the drug and autism in young ones has not been established.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the FDA, had pledged in April to undertake "a massive testing and research effort" that would identify the source of autism in a limited time.

But specialists cautioned that discovering a sole reason of autism - considered by experts to be the outcome of a complicated interplay of inherited and surrounding conditions - would not be simple.

Autism spectrum disorder is a category of permanent neurological difference and impairment that affects how persons encounter and relate to the world, and is identified using physician assessments.

In his lawsuit, Paxton - who supports Trump who is running for US Senate - claims Kenvue and J&J "intentionally overlooked and attempted to silence the science" around acetaminophen and autism.

The lawsuit seeks to make the corporations "remove any commercial messaging" that claims Tylenol is reliable for expectant mothers.

The Texas lawsuit mirrors the complaints of a collection of parents of young ones with autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who sued the manufacturers of acetaminophen in 2022.

A federal judge threw out the lawsuit, declaring investigations from the family's specialists was not conclusive.
