Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she no longer feels suitable to voice opinions countering the Trump government, worried it could worsen unhelpful debate and further divisions across the country.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Lawrence
Speaking with media, Lawrence commented, “When Trump was first in office, I felt like I was running around without clear direction. But it’s become clear, election after election, celebrities have no real impact at all on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Political Evolution
Lawrence has previously been open about supporting Republican and Democratic candidates over the years. Raised by Republican parents in her home state, she cast her ballot for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and revealing she recognized during President Obama’s term that voting Republican was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that Trump winning the presidency would be “a disaster” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she gave her endorsement to the Democratic nominee, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard abortion access.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was aligned with most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a presidential contender, but the limited influence public figures have over the voting intentions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“The second term feels different,” said Lawrence of his leadership. “As he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s the option selected.”
New Release
The actor is highlighting the drama, the filmmaker’s movie in which she stars as a new mother who struggles with her psychological well-being in a remote area. At a interview session for the project in the film festival, she spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “It’s frightening. It’s mortifying. What’s taking place is nothing short of a atrocity and it’s horrible.”
Wider Issues
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the discussions of U.S. political debates right now and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be typical to them that leaders are untruthful.”
She attempted to refocus anger about the issue to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she remarked, which was interpreted as a reference to the recent commitment supported by thousands of entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
Personal Connections
The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her performance in the new film. While the director has rejected the plot being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychological distress, Lawrence said that she connected with parts of her film narrative after the arrival of her youngest child, soon after shooting ended.
“There was concern regarding my baby,” she explained, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was doing. I was seeing a therapist, but I started taking a drug called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also mentioned about the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and unable to exercise.
“There’s a freedom,” she said, about having to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
